Practice makes perfect

You will notice as you read my blog that I have a lot of irrelevant posts, but you see the potential in making a logo out of that, for example the painting I posted, the candles that I talked about making. These are great examples because you want to practice how to actually make them rather then just drawing a horrible first logo to slap on a business card to hand out.

Inkscape: Choosing the size canvas

If you are making something like a business card or a screen saver you don't want to have all that extra room.

  1. Go to File.
  2. Scroll over New, you will see a list of sizes you can choose from.
  3. If you want to edit the size to fit exactly the object you drew go to File.
  4. Click on document properties.
  5. In the custom size box find Resize to page content.
  6. Click this, it will ask you Resize page to drawing or selection Click this.

How to make a logo out of a picture using Inkscape

To make a logo out of a picture you need to open the picture you want to use into Inkscape, if you don't have Inkscape go to their website to download the free vector program.

  1. Open your picture into Inkscape.
  2. Go to layers in the top tool bar.
  3. Add a layer and name it, always make sure that you are on that layer.
  4. On the same layer you can use the bezier curve to outline what you are copying from the picture.
-The bezier curve tool that you will find on the left tool bar.

     5. Click the fill tool and choose from the selection of colors at the bottom of your screen, to select the stroke color hold shift.
     6. To apply effects click Filters on the top tool bar.

Inkscape Caricature of my dad

I just made an Inkscape of a caricature that I drew of my dad. It looks okay, could have worked on it some more but I was just trying to whip something out real quick. It doesn't look very much like a caricature more realistic I'll have to work on that. Below is a the actual hand drawing that I made earlier today.

Caricatures

At a festival I was at yesterday I observed how much business this one tent got. That tent was a caricature and face-painting booth. Later on once I got home I made a list of things  that sell easy:
  • Caricatures
  • face-painting
  • Manga
  • chibi
  • and origami mats
And so today I made some practice caricatures of my dad they were pretty good. There was a booth there that had children's art in it for sale and all the money is going to cancer. I offered to draw caricatures in their booth to help raise money. So at the next festival I guess I'll be doing that.

Artist of the day

I should have an artist of the day... Yes that would be a good idea I believe. Okay artist of the day today is Katsushika Hokusai ( Heres a link to some of his paintings on google:
https://www.google.com/searchq=Katsushika+Hokusai&hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1C1CHFV_enUS395US407&prmd=imvnso&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=NHCIUIC8BoTe8wS_6IGoDg&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=819&bih=564
Some information about him is that he was a japanese artist who specialized in paintings and prints and was  alive October 31, 1760 through May 10, 1849. One of his most famous print series was Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji here is one shown called The Great Wave off Kanagawa
